Congratulations to the Beard family, whose farm shop in Llandeilo opened today, September 7th 2013. In a prominent position at 83 Rhosmaen Street, next to Hugh Williams Son & Co solicitors, the shop is packed with fresh local produce. As well as cheeses, milk, quiches, pasties, cheesecakes and more from the family’s Cothi Valley Goats at Cilwr, Talley, there are fresh vegetables, salads, herbs, preserves, sausages and other high quality foods from local producers.
“It’s been an exciting day,” said Lynn Beard. “We’ve had a steady stream of shoppers, even though we didn’t do much advertising.”
Looking around, I saw Gwenlas Jersey cream from Abergwenlais, Cilycwm, near Llandovery; Nant-du pork sausages from Cwmcrwth Farm, Broad Oak; chutneys and jams from Pencae Mawr Farm, Llanfynydd; and herbs and salads from Liliwen Herbs, Llwyn Bedw, Llangadog. There were fresh vegetables from Gelli Aur, eccles cakes on the counter, and a lot more besides for shoppers seeking excellent foods at very reasonable prices. I bought a cheese, potato and spinach pasty for £2, which made a delicious lunch, and a slice of fresh cheesecake, also £2. I had never tried goat-cheese cheesecake before, but will certainly buy it again. This is food with real taste and zing.
The shop’s opening hours are 9am-5pm Tuesdays to Thursdays, 9am-6pm on Fridays, 9am-5pm on Saturdays and 10am-2pm on Sundays. Closed Mondays, except Bank Holidays.
