Foodies Event in Crugybar

Standard

Tastes from the Tywi Valley and around — quite an incentive to go along to the Big Cwtch Summer Party on Saturday September 12th, at Glanrannell Park House in Crugybar. Cnwd (number 10 in the Llandeilo & Tywi Local Food Guide 2015, terrines, pâtés, smoked fish) will be there, with chef Scott Davis cooking in a pop-up restaurant by the lake in the grounds, serving local food.

From the Hedge Rose (number 12 in the food guide, free-range rare-breed pork, lamb and beef) is in the line-up, and so is Blas o’r Tan (number 32, pizza oven). Also on the list are Benporium’s spun sugar candy fleece, Big Fish Little Fish, Cothi Valley Goats dairy products, Cwrtau Bach Farm vegetables and savoury preserves, Ginhaus Deli of Llandeilo, Handmade Beer Company, Mr Nice Pie vegan pies, Nomnom Chocolate, Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company seaweed and laverbread, Slow Pig pig roast, Welsh Cottage Cakes, and lots more.

The Big Cwtch is about music too, more than 30 acts  on two stages, and activities for children. It’s a tad expensive, in my opinion, but the idea is to raise money for Ski 4 All Wales, which enables disabled people to take part in winter sports. Full adult tickets are currently £30, children 13-16 £15, 5-12 £10, under 5s free, family ticket £70.

Pity that the Big Cwtch clashes with Llansawel Show, which will be taking place only a couple of miles down the road in the next village! Llansawel Show is competitive for sheep, dogs, ponies and donkeys, besides horticulture, handicrafts, cookery and art — a popular, traditional country show, of course with refreshments (Cegin Pantygwin, number 2 in our food guide) and ice cream (Golwg-y-Mynydd/ Mountain View, number 8).

Hopefully next year, such a clash can be avoided.
